History of The Eaglehawk Heritage Society
The Eaglehawk Heritage Society was formed as a direct result of the state wide municipal restructure
which saw the Borough of Eaglehawk amalgamated with it's neighbouring councils to form the City of
Greater Bendigo.
Instigated by Karolyn Webster, a meeting to form the Heritage Society was held at the Eaglehawk
Mechanics Institute on July 27, 1994 with twenty interested persons in attendance. All with the shared
concern that Eaglehawk may lose it's unique identity as part of the larger municipality.
The society commenced formal occupation of the historic Court House building in Sailors Gully Road in
January 1998.
