Field Naturalists Club Inc.

The Bendigo Field Naturalists Club Inc. is a voluntary, non-profit incorporated body. The aim of the group is to encourage the study, preservation and enjoyment of nature.

The activities of the Club are lecture meetings, excursions, workshops, public lectures, displays, environmental research, submissions to government and industry environment and planning hearings, assistance with conservation and nature study programs and planting native plants.

The Club also publishes a 12-16 page newsletter, Whirrakee, eleven times each year. It contains short natural history articles in addition to information on Club meetings, excursions, and community conservation activities.

What do Naturalists do?

Naturalists make observations of nature. They see, hear, photograph and record the world around them. All fields of natural science are of interest, from Astronomy to Zoology. They enjoy being in the bush, on the mountains, in marshes, or in their own garden, as long as they can study nature. They may use cameras, tape recorders, video, microscopes, or just plain notebooks to record their observations. The Bendigo Field Naturalists Club functions to encourage the exchange of information and ideas, and to stimulate naturalist activities and encourage the protection of the environment.
