1836 Major Mitchell crossed Mt. Greenoch.
1849 Thomas Chapman, a shepherd, made an illegal gold discovery at Daisy Hill Ck. (Amherst).
1851 Gold found at Clunes.
1852 A party found gold at Amherst near original cemetery site.
1854 First big rush to Kangaroo Flat took place.
1855 - 1857 Amherst Hospital was established.
1859 Second rush - Scandinavian lead discovered
Gas Light Co. supplied light for Back Creek. "New" Amherst cemetery opened.
1861 1861 Back Creek becomes Talbot.
Vice-Regal visit by Sir Henry Barkly. News paper Talbot Leader established. Public Meeting forms fire brigade.
1862 Land opened for settlement.
Theatre Royal destroyed by big town

1875 Railway line Ballarat to Maryborough

1877 Water reticulated to Talbot Township.
1890 Present Post Office erected.

1938 Electricity (S.E.C.) switched on to Talbot
1952 Gold Centenary - Back To Talbot.
1971 Maryborough / Ballarat road by-passes
1985 Talbot. 1985 January- 14th Bushfire destroys two thirds of the Shire.
1994 Ten years since the Museum first opened with a display of photographs.
