The Museum opened in 1984 in the former Primitive
Methodist Church.
It contains a wide range of items of historical interest many of which
have been generously donated by local residents or past residents or
their families.

This
room of the original
school building features furniture, books, and teaching aids dating
from
1874.Read the repressive list of rules
for teachers and revisit the terrifying story of the ‘Hobyars’. This
secion is
suitable for school group visits.
AMHERSTHOSPITAL
ISOLATION WARD
An
original ward of the Amherst
hospital. This
building was one of a number used to
isolate patients with infectious
diseases.
Dates
In 1946 the Talbot Knitting Mill annexe commenced in
the Primitive Methodist Church Building.
In 1969 this Mill closed and the building was
purchased by the Shire. After the Back To Talbot.
In 1982 serious thought was being given to the
establishment of a museum.
Finally the building was used to house this museum
which opened in 1984.
In 2004 Dunach School became an an exhibit. It has
been part of the Mill
In 2007 Darrel Maffesconi donated the Amherst
Hospital Ward to the Museum.
In 2008 after 10 years of lobbying & fundraising,
buiiding commenced for the communication wing.
In 2009 December, the Communication building was
opened.
