INGLEWOOD COURT HOUSE.
This fine building of 1867, forms
part of the HISTORIC PRECINCT,
with the Hospital, St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Presbytery, Convent (not
Functioning), School, and the Railway
Station.

The Tivey House in Verdon Street was
built by local merchant Joseph Tivey,
a merchant, investor, Borough
Councillor, and Mayor. It was built
in 1881, and despite the ravages of
time, is still the most imposing
residence in Inglewood.

'Jones' Eucalyptus Distillery, located
on the Calder Highway is a powerful
visual attractant for passer-by. The
Grandfather of the present owner operated
a distillery at Kingower in the 1890's,
and established this one during the 20th
century. As was common, the structure is
built from materials readily available.

A view of the interior of
the Courthouse.

The rich panelling of the interior indicates
the desire of the authorities to convey to
the population the importance of the dispensation
of justice, even in the rural areas of the colony.
