The 2nd Kangaroo Flat Scout Group currently has four sections running, in which boys and girls are both welcome - Joey Scouts (6-8 year olds), Cub Scouts (7-11 years old), Scouts (10-15 years old) and Venturers (14-18 years old). There is a one year overlap between the ages of each section to allow each child a smoother transition or linking process as they can progress according to their developmental requirements rather than at a set time. Children of a transition age who are not currently members of the Scouting movement will generally find joining the older section most beneficial, however this is a decision to be made by both the parents and Leaders. Calendars will be distributed each Term, including times and places, themes, special events and any items that each child is required to bring. Joey Scout and Cub Scout calendars also include a parent roster, on which each family will be included approximately once per term (please contact Leaders for a copy: joey_scouts@hotmail.com or cub_scouts@hotmail.com). Parent rosters are in place to aid with the smooth running of each night, during which the Parent helper assists with games, crafts, badge work, supervision or other areas as required. All support is greatly appreciated by both Leaders and youth members, for otherwise many of these activities could not be conducted. If you are unable to attend your rostered week as a Parent helper, please either arrange a swap with another parent or contact the Leaders. Please note that siblings may not remain in the hall, nor may they participate in activities during section meetings unless otherwise instructed. This is purely for insurance purposes and to ensure that the night is focussed on the youth members of that section. Parents are requested not to stay at the hall during section meetings either, unless they are the Parent helper for the night. No youth members are permitted leave the hall unless their parent or guardian has come into the hall to collect them. Leaders are to be informed if a youth member is to be picked up by someone other than their parent or guardian. Joey Scouts and Cub Scouts must be signed 'in' at the beginning of each night and 'out' at the end of the night by the person responsible for transporting them to and from meetings. Youth members may be expected to abide by a reasonable code of conduct, which includes informing their Leader if they are unable to attend a programmed section meeting or activity, so that the meeting can be planned and catered for the correct number of children. |

All members are required to be correctly attired in the full Scouting uniform (including neatly rolled scarf and woggle) for each section meeting, unless otherwise instructed by Leaders due to the nature of the activities of the night. The uniform should be clean and neatly pressed, with all badges sewn on. Wearing of jewellery is not encouraged. Hats are required for outdoor activities. Even when not required to wear full uniform, all Scouting members must wear their Group scarf when attending Scouting events. A new navy uniform is currently being phased in, and is now available from Snowgum (second hand items will become available with time). Compulsory Scouting uniform items are shirts (each Section has a different coloured collar and stripe down the sleeve: Joeys = tan, Cubs = yellow, Scouts = green, Venturers = Maroon, Rovers = Red, Leaders have an all navy shirt) and belts. Shirts are available in either a woven, button-up or polo style; either may be worn. Optional items available include hats and jackets. The lower half of our Group's uniform is to consist of navy blue pants (cargo pants are okay) and black shoes. The new positioning of badges is shown in the diagram below.
Please note, however, that this new uniform will not be compulsory until 2009, until then, members may choose to remain in the khaki uniform, although it may become difficult to obtain uniform items in this colour. If you have or require some second-hand uniform items, please discuss this with your Leader. |

Scouting membership fees are paid from July to June. All fees must be paid IN FULL by June for members to be registered for the following year. No child will be registered if they have fees owing to the Group, which means that they are ineligible to attend Scouting activities as they are not covered by insurance. In the case of new members, completion of a youth membership form will cover the new member for insurance for a period of four calendar weeks. Completion of this form does not mean that the child is obligated to join Scouting. All joining, insurance and registration fees must be paid within four weeks of the child first attending a Scouting activity, so that the necessary forms and payments can be sent to Branch for processing, ensuring continued insurance cover and that a membership certificate is returned in time for the child to be invested at six weeks. The Group Levy is also expected to be paid promptly as this money is necessary to help pay for bills for services to the hall, hall maintenance and Leader training. The fees for the 2004-5 year are as follows:

The Group Committee consists of a number of dedicated parents that provide support for the Group in the form of fundraising, recruitment of Leaders, day-to-day running of the hall etc. The Group Committee generally meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in the hall, however the exact date, time and location of each meeting will be advised in the newsletter. All parents are encouraged to attend these meetings and are expected to take their turn at an elected position at some stage. |

Each family within our Group (excepting Leaders) is added to a roster of duties as outlined below. This roster is in place to help keep our hall a neat, clean and safe environment and all assistance is much appreciated. Two families are rostered on once a fortnight, so depending on our Group numbers at the time, you will be included in the roster approximately once or twice per year. You will be notified of your turn via the newsletter (copies are only available to members of the 2nd Kangaroo Flat Scout Group - you may request a copy from your Leader or by emailing secondkangarooflat@hotmail.com). If you cannot attend your rostered weekend, please arrange to swap weekends with someone else. If required, cleaning may be done during section meetings provided Leader approval has been sought. A key to the hall for cleaning purposes is available from the Group Committee President (please see your Leader or the newsletter for further information). Duties for the roster include:
