CUB SCOUT PACK

NEWS

Cuboree

All remaining monies owing for Cuboree must be paid by Wednesday December 8.  The Cuboree will be held at Gilwell Scout Park from April 4-8, 2005 (first week of school holidays).

Parent Helpers

Only one parent helper will be rostered on to assist with most Pack nights from now, thus it is imperative that the rostered parent attends.  If you cannot attend the night(s) that we have allocated for you (this includes if your child is ill and unable to attend Cubs), you must arrange for someone else to assist in your absence.  Leaders should be informed regardless of circumstances if your child will not be attending Cubs so the program can be catered appropriately.

Pack Holiday

Our Pack Holiday will be held at Pax Hill Scout Camp (Ballarat) from November 26-8.  Cubs who have not been on an overnight Cub Scout activity must attend this camp to be eligible for Cuboree and it is strongly advised that all other Cubs wishing to attend Cuboree attend this camp also.  The cost of the Pack Holiday will be $25-30 (depending on numbers).

REPORTS BY CUB SCOUTS

Gangshow and Sleepover

All the Cubs met at the Scout Hall at 9:30am on Saturday June 19; we were going to the Gangshow in Burwood.  We had to wait for the bus and two Cubs, after that we were off and on our way to Burwood.  The bus trip was fun and a bit boring, but mostly it was fun.  When we arrived at the Gangshow we had to find our seats and it took a while for the show to start.  The first show was about a nightclub and an orphanage.  The nightclub owner wants to extend his nightclub out into the orphanage and the infants need to move out to an orphanage in a different town, but Rose who lives in the orphanage finds out that her father is the nightclub owner.  The second show was Aladdin; it's about a boy, his mother, a girl and a Genie.  Aladdin was better than the first show.  The way there was must quicker than I thought, the way back felt much longer.  We had sausage stew for tea, it was very yummy.  After tea we watched a  movie called the Rug Rats Go Wild, I liked this movie a lot.  We did not really sleep; I got a little bit in the morning.  Breakfast was rice bubbles, which I enjoyed and afterwards we played a game.

District Cub Scout Gridiron Day

On March 14th all Bendigo District Cub Scouts met at Garden Gully Reserve to have a Gridiron Tournament.  We were lucky to have two American gridiron players come to show us how to play.  We played three games and there were six players on each team.  I won the Best and Fairest award and so did Trentin.  I played for the opposition team because they were two players short.  Our team was called the Roos.  We came third on the ladder and I had fun!

Linking to Scouts

After achieving my Bronze and Silver Boomerangs, I am completing my Gold Boomerang.  These Boomerang badges consist of tests and activities that you have to perform and pass.  For my Gold Boomerang I had to know about first aid, this included putting together a first aid kit.  I had to learn about safety in the bush.  This included learning how to stay in the one place if you are lost.  Another part was about Scoutcraft – this included knotting and lashing, some of these are the reef knot, sheet bend, clove hitch and square lashing.  We have done a lot more interesting things at Cubs and I am looking forward to Scouts.

Being a Cub Scout

We recently went on a bike ride with Cubs.  We went a long way but it was fun.  We rode to Cooinda Park and played on the playground.  We then played cricket.  IT’S FUN BEING A CUB SCOUT!
